John Wick, portrayed by Keanu Reeves, is a story about a man searching for those guys who broke into his homestead. They ended up stealing his vintage car while killing his Beagle puppy in the process. Seems a bit much? Yes, but if that puppy was the last gift left by your recently deceased wife, we’re sure you’ll go bonkers like the way he did. And like all movies packed with action, one of the most iconic moments are the scenes where cars were used in the production.
The screeching of the drives, the power steering moments to evade gunshots and renegade drivers and busy traffic, the car chase – all of that, has become staples in most action movies. But apart from the drivers and the scene, the cars that they drive are also such highlights because they are such beasts on the road. Which got us thinking, what car does John Wick drive?
Ford Mustang Boss 429
So in John Wick 1, what car does John Wick drive?
In the first installment of the John Wick series, Wick is seen driving a black Ford Mustang Boss 429. This car is just not the usual car you would see in an action film as this was, in fact, a vintage one in the real world. And as far as Mustangs go, this car is also an iconic muscle car. But what makes this car so special that it sets it apart from the other ones?
Back in the late 1960s, Ford was having a hard time competing at NASCAR with the 426 Hemi that Chrysler had in store. But they knew they still had to be competitive to stay in the race. Their answer was building a new engine that was able to compete thus starting the production of the Boss 429. But before it can be used, and because of the homologation rules of NASCAR, they had to produce at least 500 cars with the same engine and sell it to the general public. The rule paved the way to the creation of 1358 examples in 2 years – 859 in 1969 and 499 in 1970.
As for its power, the Boss 429 can go from zero to 30 mph in 3.2 seconds, zero to 60 in 7.1, and zero to 100 in 13.6 seconds, with a top speed of 118 mph. The engine also boasted 375 hp which at that time of production was already breaking records.
John Wick Car Price
Most of us would wish upon the stars to just get half the awesomeness of John Wick – the way he talks, walks, and drives. But since we can’t be John Wick, maybe driving his car would be just as an awesome experience as being him. But how do we do it?
Well, we need to get our hands on the car. But what’s John Wick’s car price? If you want to own one, you would have to go through auctions with a fine-toothed comb as most owners would keep the car until the price would go up to a hefty $500,000 and even more. Well, for one, it’s one of the rarest and priced cars to date, even now.
Aside from the fact that this car was in low production, it also looks a little different from other Mustangs.
This is because they had to fit the Boss 429 cubic-inch V8 inside the engine bay. Because of the need for modification, the usual Mustang framework was adjusted. The hood scoop on it was also much wider; making it more functional rather than just aesthetics. The shock towers were also widened. They also extended the inner fenders to make this all work.
With all these modifications and adjustments along the way before the final product was achieved, only a few of the cars with the same specifications exist now. This makes it a rare find in the United States; even more so in Europe.
But if your wallet is not deep enough, you have another option if you want to sit inside John Wick’s car.
John Wick Car for Sale
If owning the same car would be almost impossible to do; as John Wick Car for sale is just something that would be just a dream, owning a replica of it is easier. Lucky for us, an Oklahoma-based workshop has successfully produced many silver screen-accurate copies of Wick’s car, accurately based on the series. With the support of Ford Motor Company, regular folks like us can now be bad-asses on the streets. And you would no longer be simply asking what car does John Wick drive.
Production starts with a pre-order as each car is custom-built. Though the car may look like the one in the movies, its components are different from it. The only similar factor is the look; the engine has Mach 1 components and not the original Boss 429 engine. The base price for the Mach 1 Mustang is $169,000. It can go up if you want the car to be the same as the one in the movies in every way possible, engine and all.
John Wick will forever be an icon of being a bad-ass; both on the streets as well as in persona. His demeanor and aura will be something we want to exemplify. The way he brings himself in every scene is very cool; therefore, it’s not a shock to hear he has a lot of die-hard fans out there. Fans that, to an extent, would purchase memorabilia or any merchandise of the film series.
We would even ask what car does John Wick drive out of curiosity because we want to be as bad-ass as him. So, it might be time to start saving up and get our hands on his car; one way or another. Or maybe start researching about auctions that sell the same car as the one used in the film. Or find any other means to get our hands on it, pronto!
